PA AHEC SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The program is a national program, HRSA provides the grant funding and guidance for the program. The idea is to connect students in health profession fields with opportunities to learn more about underserved populations.
Primarily, we do this in three ways.
Speakers – live and virtual. PA AHEC has a speaker series in partnership with PSU COM, usually three in the fall and three in the spring. Seeing that you are at PSU Main, The PA Office of Rural Health hosts a Human Trafficking conference in the fall and a Rural Public Health conference in April, I could pay for you to attend one of both of these.
Immersions– In person , some require travel some do not.
– Rural Retreat ( June 11-12)
– Art museum projects
-Narcan, Access and attitude, this one you can do in a group or by yourself.
-WIC
-Refugee if you are willing to travel
-windshield project – you can do this in a group or on your own
Skill Developments– Mental Health First Aid, Crisis Prevention Intervention- de escalation training, Poverty Simulation, Re-entry simulation, Friday Night in the ER
